Which sports bike from these two would be better for daily use and weekend highway runs. I looking to upgrade from a KTM Duke 390 to a middleweight fully faired bike. The new R7 makes nearly 73.4 PS of power (source) which is around 5 PS more than the Ninja. Also, the Yamaha R7 doesn't get any major electronics or riding aids, so is it worth going for it over the cheaper Ninja 650, or the Ninja 650 is a better option?

Yamaha's r3, mt07 are cheap bikes. Engines are great but most other components are bargain basement. These bikes are not designed for hard riding mostly due to shitty suspension. They are true entry level bikes that could have been so much more.

The r7 looks like the mt07 dressed in a fairing. What I hated about my fz07 was this:
Notchy tranny.
Shitty, loose fitting rear axle. Chain adjustment and alignment was horrid.
Start switch sticks and can engage on its own due to shitty spring.
Frame or swingarm flex under demanding situations.
Pogo stick shock. I think they improved it in later years.
Stock exhaust sounds shitty and the bike produces a drive train rattle.
Everything was overtorqued from the factory including oil filter, drain plug, and axles.
Great engine though. Did I say shitty enough?

Can't comment on the kawi except they are very popular. Build quality is likely better.
Suzuki sv650 is another contender and a higher quality ride.
