Boy sure was cold commuting to work this morning,
on my VFR.

It was only -3 celcius here in Montreal, but at least it is sunny.
I had to break out the long johns this morning.
Ha! Ha!

I am hoping to beat my record this year in terms of how long
I can ride before the snow comes.
My best record to date was back in 2001 in Vancouver I rode
on Christmas day Dec.25th and I started again on Feb. 14th on
Valentine's Day.

Here on the East coast, my best record is I rode until Nov.15th
and then started over again March 24th.

I hope to beat that record this year.

I believe there is a club in the USA and a website of riders who ride year round in some of the coldest states in the US.
I believe they are called Rounders, not sure.

How about you guys, how many of you guys ride year round?

Well, Happy riding folks!

Wish me good luck!

Cheers!

I'll never forget the morning I woke up to -14 here in Vancouver.

It was cold but clear with no snow on the ground, so I walked outside and kick started the ol' RZ350, completely forgetting that I was still running water in the radiator from racing at Westwood. Not a drop of anti-freeze in that puppy.

Cracked the block as soon as it fired up.

It was surely chilly with only jeans on tonight, 1 degree, on my way back from work. I'll arrange to wear leather pants...but I don't know where I can change and where I can leave leather pants while I'm at work, how I can bring a pair of jeans everyday, etc....too much to think. Maybe it's feasibile to ride only with jeans for 30 min. as low as -5C?

I was in Montreal last winter, I rode till early Dec. After that snow covered the road, but I had a few occasions that I was able to ride in the middle of winter when the roads become completely dry. Riding when -10C wasn't too bad as long as it was short ride. In March, I think I started around the same time as you. I do remember the arrival of spring in Montreal was earlier than normal this year, as it was so warm that I ordered to cut the gas to my fireplace in mid March.

Jeans are good

Hey Maverik,

I work in an office downtown Montreal, so I gotta wear business clothes.
So what I do is wear my jeans and long johns or thick cargo pants for the ride to the office. I put my business clothes in my pack back and change
in the washroom when I get here.
I keep my dress shoes at work, this way I can wear my bike boots
for the commute.

You are right, usually in Montreal you can ride until December as long as you
stay within city limits, once out of the city it gets risky.
Same goes for spring, I am hoping for an early start.

Apparently the weather men and women are predicting a mild winter
across the country this year.
I guess we will have to wait and see.

Cheers!

Was out yesterday, going to Vancouver and Burnaby. Rode back about 22:00. With my Kilimanjaro jacket and liner, First Gear overpants with liners and winter gloves the cold wasn't a problem at all. I was more worried about ice on the back roads.
I wouldn't go out in jeans, though. The overpants did an excellent job at keeping the cold away, never mind the hip and knee protection.

No heated gear

Same goes for me, no heated gear.

I just wear my long johns under my jeans, warm sweatshirt and t-shirt,
my cop jacket with the heavy duty liner inside, ski-doo gloves, balaclava,
thick socks and my waterproof boots.

I have never owned a heated vest in my life, just heated grips on the
Rockster, which would be nice on the VFR.
But not justifiable to spend the money to have them installed.

Like my father always says, cold weather builds character!
Toughens you up!
Ha! Ha!
