Any issues with custom straight pipe?

Hey Guys,

Trying to save some money and was just curious to know if anyone has removed the stock Catalytic Converter and got a custom straight pipe made using the stock headers, combined with a slip-on exhaust? I'm assuming I would need a Power Commander to go with it.

BTW I have a 2006 R6

Thanks in Advanced

If you're trying to save some money, just go with the slip-on? Pitching the cat isn't going to make a world of difference.

Or just leave it all stock, that will save a ton!

Custom made is never cheaper if it's going to work right.

Otherwise your bike is being mocked in the Craigslist post because you've got a one size fits all vacuum cleaner hose going on.

Straight pipes are too loud........ plz, consider the annoyance it has on other ppl, lets try to not contribute to the already shitty image we have as motorcylists.

But if you want to want to save a bit of money, you can take some rebar and ram it down the stock pipe repeatedly and then blow out the fragments with some revs. Not joking :laughing , I've seen it done before.

I wouldn't recommend it though, not unless you have a plan b, (and that would probably be buying an aftermarket slip on)

Straight pipe on a ricer bike is going to sound like this......

I had to film that with hearing protection on an even my neighbors who own Harleys with straight pipes came outside going WTF WAS THAT!!???

Amazing what a simple slip on does for taming that wild roar.

I would think that you'd need to add some back pressure to that straight-pipe too... 750 had a noticeable loss in bottom end when I deleted the exhaust valve and had a fully open system with no cat or baffle.

*warning: no idea wtf im talking about.

Please, please don't go straight pipe. Just go with a slip-on and be done with it. Does the slip on system you're looking at come with both the primary and secondary exhaust canisters? Fromemory, I believe these bikes have both?

Has anyone done it? Yes. They typically take it to a muffler shop and have them cut the cat off, replace with a straight piece of pipe (mid-pipe). Also referred to as a "Cat-Delete". Plenty on youtube if you want to search. Doubt you will save much money over buying just a slipon.

Your bike will sound like fucking garbage BTW, and the cut/weld/clamp job will look like garbage too.

Buy a slip on, and be done with it

Lol.. Thanks syncro for clarifying.. Yes I have a slip on on the way. It was kinda a forced upgrade since my Exhuast Servo Module went the other day and is around $300 to replace anyways so why not pay the extra couple bux for a slip-on.

BTW. Say I got the Cat Eliminator Pipe, Would it act as if I got a full aftermarket exhaust system? What should I be prepared to do to my bike once making the mod? (Power Command? Dyno Tune? etc.....)

Is there any benefits other than weight savings if I went this route?

^^ No it wont be 100% the same as going with a full system......... not that anything will be different in principle but the aftermarket system from reputable companies flow exhaust a lot smoother with less turbulence......... or so they advertise and claim.

You should definitely consider Power commander as you'll be losing a lot of back pressure. Your bike will be running a lot leaner with a lot of exhaust backfires........... PC with dyno tuning should fix all that with a smooth power delivery over the RPM range.

^^ Yep...I'd invest in a PC or some form of fuel/engine management. I'm a firm believer that any variance from stock in terms of intake or exhaust will require some form of tuning to take full advantage of those products. A tune alone in full stock form can provide a smoother, stronger power delivery. I'm running the Bazzaz setup on my GSXR, been very happy with it. Its got a nice interface, very easy to use. I had a PC IIIr on my K3 GSXR. In the end, its your bike...opinions of others only matter so much.
