for starters, a set of these tires can be had for about $100 less that pp3's, q3's, etc.
when i picked up my new (to me) bike it was need of some tires before i set off on my WA trip. i saw no point in trying to nurse the last scraps of mileage out of a tire on a road trip especially if i was riding two up. i got the tires installed at 2nd gear in coquitlam and paid $220 for the set and $64 for install.
the WA trip saw plenty of twisty riding (hurricane ridge and neah bay for example) and they also went on my norcal trip the following week. unfortunately the rear had to be changed out before the norcal trip was over. in all, i got about 3500 miles out of the rear and the front still has plenty of life.
in terms of the tire, while riding two up the tires were at max pressure of 42f/42r. they provided decent feedback and i did not notice the tires squirming around at all. we had one day of wet conditions and i only noticed a bit of slip on a couple of occasions.
the trip to norcal was different though, as i was riding solo and the pace was considerably higher. initially i was running the 42/42 pressure as id forgotten about changing it. typically i'll run 32-34f/34-36r depending on temps and what i'm riding (track day/twisties/day2day riding. i noticed at full pressure and 1 up that the tires moved around a bit more than i was comfortable with, particularly over tar snakes. after adjusting the pressure down - 34f/36r - i noticed a significant improvement, however if i was on the gas hard out of corners the rear would sometimes step out. i also noticed that under hard trail braking the front would sometimes be pushing but not to the point i was worried it would let go. on high speed sweepers i didn't have any issues.
compared to other tires i've used (Q2, PP2CT, PP) the conti's did a good job for the money, but i was hoping for more life out of the rear for a sport touring tire. i think the lack of life can be partially contributed to a heavier bike and nearly half the miles having been done two-up with a loaded bike. for a beginner or intermediate level street rider running a 600cc machine, i think the conti motions would provide great bang for the buck. for a more experienced ride the conti motions still provide decent levels of grip at a good price. tread life on the rear is the only consideration and i think this will be dependent on your machine and riding style.
