So you have a full set of shims at your house? Sweet. You'll have a lot of new friends after they read your thread.

Things to do before you start

1 Read and understand all steps before you start

2 Clean your sparkplug wells with compressed air after blowing down the top of the motor before pulling the valve cover so you don't drop shit onto the top of the motor

3 Identify all bolts and nuts to be removed especially ones buried in the spark plug wells that are tough to see

4 Change your anti freeze, have 50/50 mix ready to go in

5 Use a torque wrench and find all torque values before you start don't guess or assume, if you fuck up the head it can get expensive

6 Thomas skinner in richmond has the tapered feeler gauges for 22 bux that are narrow to fit between cams and bearings buy a set

7 If you have to pull the cams be dam certain you know what you are doing as these are interference motors and will eat themselves if the cam timing is out

8 I am all for friends helping each other, just remember you are financialy responsible don't expect you case of beer to constatute a binding agreement with liability and performance gaurantee

Sorry just to ad on that, BEFORE YOU START THE MOTOR, spin the crank by hand a few times to make sure it rotates somewhat smoothly. Obviously there is some resistance especially if you keep the plugs in.

It's really not hard but having tapered gauges help. I bought a set from a auto store and bent them myself. $7.00 >=]

Once you have all the measurements you can find out what shims you need and order them up. You will need a micrometer once you pull out the old shims. If you need to pull them out. At 40,000km mine are all in spec. Have a look =]
