Hi, i own a 2000 Kawasaki ZX9R. I was wondering if anyone else has problems like i am encountering. If i am going and if my RPM's are between 6000 - 7000 it's like it bogs out, like if i try to excelerate through it, i have to give it more gas then usual. I just got the carbs cleaned and re adjusted, I have a full exhaust and it's been jetted. Took it to a bike shop and they say they cant figure the problem out. I thought maybe someone on here would know something.

Thanks

First of all ....

:flip WELCOME ABOARD :flip

This all sounds like a basic tuning issue to me. The full exhaust does require a jet kit to make it work out but for a jet kit to work it needs to be tuned. It sounds like your kit was put in the first time with no follow up and now you're seeing the results.

But to clarify. You said you got the carbs cleaned and adjusted. What adjustment? Was it running OK before they did this work? Also when was this jet kit done and what did they put in and what brand jet kit is it? What's your current main jet size, needle position and pilot settings?

Basically the jet kit needs to be set up to deliver the goods. That requires some skill in evaluating what part of the rpm and carb range is in need of tuning. Without hearing more from you I'd GUESS (and that's all it is at this point) that your needle needs to be raised a notch to richen up the mid range-mid throttle mixture. But that may be just the tip of the iceberg. You really need to have a good tuner set the bike up to get the best out of it.

I'm not sure what shop you took it to but take your bike, the other parts of the jet kit, a wad of cash and some patience to a shop like Imperial, GPD or Burnaby Kawi and have them tune it up right. Typically setting up a jet kit takes 3 to 4 trips down under the tank to change settings. Each time this is done you're looking at about an hour and a half to do the mod, reassemble and test ride. Hence the big bill for labour.

One other thing to watch out for is the air line that comes from the ram air inlets on the nose back to your carbs. At the carb end it is a black plastic pipe that runs across the front side of the carb bank. It connects to two short sections of black pipe that come forward from the carbs.

That assembly is fed by a single black hose that comes back from a "V" connector inside the nose fairing. There are a total of 6 connections between the ram air inlect and the carb. At least one of them had to be disconnected in order to take the carbs out. If it is not buttoned back up properly, the bike will not run well.

If you pull off the airbox you will see the black pipe across the front of the carbs, trace back from there.

Good luck,

Rob

(Note, if it pulls cleanly above 7000 rpm and you can get it up to 100 km/h or better, it is not this air pipe! - back to the shop you go)

Ask the shop what carb adjustments were made and let them know the issues, iam sure its just something simple.if it went in running decent then just get them to relook at it.

I agree the ivans kits are great just put one on darkroasts 9r and it really smoothed it out but also ya lose some mileage as well. give and take i guess..

Thank you all for your replies. I actually got the work done at Burnaby kawasaki. Before i got them to look at it, it ran ok. It runs great now, just still having problems with the rpms between 6000 and 7000. They did not know really what to tell me. I will try to get some more info from them on tuesday or wednesday when they open.

Thanks again!
